Description
Smart Battery Storage for Your Home
Vault is Thunder's compact 1.92 kWh home battery, powered by Hoymiles technology and designed for flexible residential energy storage. Pair it with a solar system to store more of the energy you generate, or use smart tariff charging to store lower-cost electricity for later.
Advanced AC-coupling makes Vault easy to integrate with compatible solar systems and microinverters without changing the DC side of your existing setup.
Store Solar and Use It Later
Instead of relying only on solar while your panels are generating, Vault lets you store available energy for use later in the day. Self-consumption mode helps you make better use of your own solar generation, while Time-of-Use operation can shift charging and discharging around your electricity tariff.
Smart Energy Management
The Hoymiles HiBattery 1920 AC platform delivers up to 96.5% bidirectional efficiency and 87% round-trip efficiency. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connect Vault to the S-Miles Home app, giving you control over battery status, charging, discharging and operating modes from your phone.
LiFePO₄ Battery Built for Long-Term Use
Vault uses LiFePO₄ battery cells rated for at least 6,000 cycles and includes integrated battery management, self-heating for low-temperature operation, an internal fire-suppression system and pressure-relief protection.
Compact and Quiet
At just 460 × 240 × 203 mm, Vault stores 1.92 kWh in a compact format suitable for wall or floor installation. IP66 protection, natural fanless cooling and operating noise below 17 dB(A) make it suitable for a wide range of home energy storage installations.
Expandable Storage
Need more capacity later? Two Vault batteries can be connected in one system to increase total storage to 3.84 kWh, giving you a straightforward upgrade path as your energy needs grow.

FAQs
What is Vault?
Vault is Thunder's 1.92 kWh smart home battery, based on the Hoymiles HiBattery 1920 AC platform. It can store solar energy or lower-cost grid electricity for use later.
Can Vault work with my existing solar panels?
Yes. Vault is AC-coupled, so it can work alongside compatible existing solar systems without connecting directly to the solar panels themselves. This makes it particularly useful for microinverter and retrofit solar installations.
Can Vault charge from the grid?
Yes. Vault supports Time-of-Use operation, allowing it to charge during lower-cost tariff periods and discharge when electricity is more expensive.
How much energy does Vault store?
Vault provides 1.92 kWh of LiFePO₄ battery capacity and is rated for at least 6,000 battery cycles.
Can I control the battery from my phone?
Yes. Vault uses the S-Miles Home app with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing you to monitor battery status and manage charging, discharging and operating modes.
Can I add another battery later?
Yes. Two Vault batteries can be combined in one system to provide up to 3.84 kWh of total battery storage.
Is Vault suitable for outdoor installation?
Vault has an IP66-rated enclosure. Installation should still follow the Hoymiles guidance, including protecting the battery from direct sunlight and rainfall and maintaining the required ventilation clearances.
How quiet is Vault?
Vault uses natural convection cooling with no cooling fan and operates at less than 17 dB(A), making it extremely quiet during normal operation.
Does Vault have a warranty?
Yes. The Hoymiles HiBattery 1920 AC supplied as Vault carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

Annual consumption: 2,700 kWh (Ofgem typical medium household). Winter 60% / Summer 40%.
System: 4 x Storm 178W flexible solar panels (TopCon monocrystalline), total 0.71 kWp. Microinverter: Hoymiles HMS-800W-2T (800 VA, 2 MPPT, 96.7% peak efficiency).
Orientation: Modelled at 90-degree vertical mounting (typical for fence or balcony railing). This is a conservative estimate. Tilting panels to a more favourable angle will increase generation.
Year 1 generation: 525 kWh (estimated for London, based on typical balcony/fence mounting).
Panel degradation: 2% in year 1, 0.7%/year thereafter (conservative estimate for flexible ETFE panels).
Seasonal generation split: Winter 28% / Summer 72% (Thames region profile).
Self-consumption rate: 100% year-round. System output is well below household demand, so all generation is consumed on-site.
Electricity tariff: 30 p/kWh peak (average smart time-of-use daytime rate), 7 p/kWh off-peak (overnight rate), 3% annual inflation.
Battery: Hoymiles HiBattery 1920 AC (HB-1920-AC-SV), 1.92 kWh usable capacity, LiFePO4 cells, AC-coupled, 87% round-trip efficiency, IP66, 6,000+ cycle life, 10-year warranty.
Battery arbitrage: Off-peak grid charging at overnight rates, peak discharge during daytime. 365 days per year at full capacity (1.92 kWh). Solar generation is consumed directly by the household and does not charge the battery, leaving full battery capacity available for grid arbitrage year-round. Battery operates at 800W maximum output, sufficient to offset household base load during peak hours.
87% round-trip efficiency.
Battery arbitrage savings assume the customer is on a smart time-of-use tariff with off-peak overnight rates. Actual returns may be higher or lower than projected
depending on tariff availability and usage patterns. All figures are estimates based on the assumptions above and should not be considered as guaranteed
returns.
