More Solar for Larger Spaces: Four lightweight 178W flexible TOPCon panels give Storm 710W substantially more solar coverage while keeping the system slim and easy to handle. Ideal for sun-facing walls, façades, fences, sheds, garden offices and larger balconies where conventional rigid panels may be impractical. Each panel weighs just 3.5 kg.
Made for Sun-Facing Surfaces: The four-panel layout makes Storm 710W particularly suited to larger south, south-east or south-west facing surfaces. Spread the panels across an available wall, fence or other suitable area to make better use of otherwise unused space around your home.
Simple Plug-In Solar: Connect the panels to the Hoymiles microinverter using the supplied cables, then plug the system directly into a standard UK socket using the fused 3-pin AC cable. No dedicated solar circuit or complicated electrical installation required.
Smart Energy Monitoring: Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connect the system to the S-Miles Home app, allowing you to monitor solar generation from your phone. The Hoymiles microinverter delivers up to 96.7% peak efficiency and 99.8% MPPT efficiency.
Quick DIY Setup: Everything required for the solar system is supplied in the kit. Mount the lightweight panels securely, connect them to the microinverter and plug in. The flexible format avoids the weight and complexity associated with conventional rooftop solar panels.
UK-Compliant Plug-In Solar: Storm 710W is built for the UK's plug-in solar framework, combining compliant solar panels, a G98-listed Hoymiles microinverter and a fused UK 3-pin connection in one complete system.
Built for Outdoor Use: Storm panels are TÜV certified and tested to IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 standards, with IP67 protection and a Class C fire rating. Their flexible construction provides a lightweight alternative for suitable outdoor locations.

FAQs
Is Storm 710W a plug-in solar system?
Yes. Storm 710W is a complete UK plug-in solar kit designed to generate electricity directly into your home through a standard UK 3-pin socket. It combines four flexible solar panels, a Hoymiles microinverter and a fused UK AC connection cable.
What is the difference between Storm 360W and Storm 710W?
Storm 710W uses four flexible solar panels instead of two, making it better suited to larger available surfaces and households looking for greater solar generation potential. Storm 360W is particularly compact for balconies and smaller spaces, while Storm 710W works well across sunny walls, fences, sheds and larger outdoor areas.
Where can I install the Storm 710W panels?
The lightweight flexible panels are particularly suited to sun-facing walls, façades, fences, sheds, garden offices, balconies and other suitable outdoor surfaces. Each panel weighs only 3.5 kg, making Storm useful in locations where heavier rigid solar panels may be impractical.
Does Storm 710W need a south-facing surface?
No. A south-facing installation will generally provide the strongest annual solar exposure in the UK, but south-east and south-west facing locations can also perform well. Actual generation depends on orientation, shading, panel angle, location and weather.
Do I need an electrician to install Storm 710W?
No. Storm 710W is designed for straightforward DIY plug-in installation. Secure the panels in a suitable location, connect the supplied cables to the microinverter and plug the fused UK 3-pin cable into a suitable household socket.
How do four solar panels connect to the microinverter?
The kit includes the required DC connection cables to connect the four Storm panels to the Hoymiles microinverter. The microinverter then converts the panels' DC electricity into AC electricity for use in your home.
How do I monitor my solar generation?
The Hoymiles microinverter includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and works with the S-Miles Home app. You can monitor generation and system performance from your phone.
Do I need to notify my DNO?
Yes. Plug-in solar remains subject to the applicable G98/DNO notification process. Thunder provides guidance with every Storm system to make this process straightforward.
What AC cable length is included?
A 5m single-piece AC connection cable is supplied as standard. An optional 10m single-piece AC cable is available if you need additional reach, replacing the standard 5m cable without requiring a separate extension lead.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. If you want to store surplus solar generation for use later in the day, the system can be upgraded with compatible battery storage. The Storm Plus range combines Storm solar with the Hoymiles HiBattery 1920 AC.

Annual consumption: 2,700 kWh (Ofgem typical medium household). Winter 60% / Summer 40%.
System: 4 x Storm 178W flexible solar panels (TopCon monocrystalline), total 0.71 kWp. Microinverter: Hoymiles HMS-800W-2T (800 VA, 2 MPPT, 96.7% peak efficiency).
Orientation: Modelled at 90-degree vertical mounting (typical for fence or balcony railing). This is a conservative estimate. Tilting panels to a more favourable angle will increase generation.
Year 1 generation: 525 kWh (estimated for London, based on typical balcony/fence mounting).
Panel degradation: 2% in year 1, 0.7%/year thereafter (conservative estimate for flexible ETFE panels).
Seasonal generation split: Winter 28% / Summer 72% (Thames region profile).
Self-consumption rate: 100% year-round. System output is well below household demand, so all generation is consumed on-site.
Electricity tariff: 30 p/kWh peak (average smart time-of-use daytime rate), 7 p/kWh off-peak (overnight rate), 3% annual inflation.
Battery: Hoymiles HiBattery 1920 AC (HB-1920-AC-SV), 1.92 kWh usable capacity, LiFePO4 cells, AC-coupled, 87% round-trip efficiency, IP66, 6,000+ cycle life, 10-year warranty.
Battery arbitrage: Off-peak grid charging at overnight rates, peak discharge during daytime. 365 days per year at full capacity (1.92 kWh). Solar generation is consumed directly by the household and does not charge the battery, leaving full battery capacity available for grid arbitrage year-round. Battery operates at 800W maximum output, sufficient to offset household base load during peak hours.
87% round-trip efficiency.
Battery arbitrage savings assume the customer is on a smart time-of-use tariff with off-peak overnight rates. Actual returns may be higher or lower than projected
depending on tariff availability and usage patterns. All figures are estimates based on the assumptions above and should not be considered as guaranteed
returns.
