Warranty Policy

Last updated: 03.03.2026

1. Scope of This Warranty

This Warranty Policy applies to all products purchased directly from Thunder Energy Services Ltd ("Thunder", "we", "us", or "our") through the website www.thunderenergy.co.uk. It sets out the warranty coverage we provide in addition to your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Nothing in this Warranty Policy affects, limits, or excludes your statutory rights as a consumer. In the event of any conflict between this policy and your statutory rights, your statutory rights shall prevail.

2. Warranty Periods

The following warranty periods apply from the date of delivery to you:

Solar Panels: 10 years from the date of delivery. This covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and conditions.

Accessories (including cables, isolators, straps, connectors, and mounting hardware): 2 years from the date of delivery. This covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and conditions.

For products that may include a separate manufacturer warranty (such as microinverters), the manufacturer's own warranty terms apply in addition to this policy. Details of manufacturer warranties are available in the relevant product documentation.

3. What Is Covered

This warranty covers defects that arise solely from faulty materials or manufacturing workmanship when the product is used in accordance with the installation manual and product documentation provided by Thunder. Specifically, this warranty covers:

  • Failure of solar panels to generate electrical output due to a manufacturing defect

  • Delamination, cell cracking, or junction box failure attributable to a defect in materials or manufacturing

  • Failure of accessory components due to defective materials or workmanship

A valid warranty claim requires that the defect has arisen under normal domestic use and that the product has been installed, maintained, and operated in accordance with all instructions, guidelines, and safety requirements provided by Thunder.

4. What Is Not Covered (Exclusions)

This warranty does not cover any defect, fault, damage, or performance issue arising from or attributable to any of the following:

(a) Improper installation: Any installation that does not comply with the Thunder installation manual, applicable UK wiring regulations (BS 7671), or any other relevant standards and legislation. This includes, without limitation, incorrect wiring, failure to use a Competent Person Scheme (CPS) registered electrician for grid connection, and failure to install a double pole isolator.

(b) Physical damage: Any physical damage to the product, including but not limited to cracking, bending, puncturing, scratching, crushing, cutting, or any deformation of the panels or components, whether caused by impact, mishandling, improper storage, excessive mechanical stress, or any other external force.

(c) Modification or tampering: Any alteration, modification, disassembly, or repair of the product carried out by any person other than Thunder or a person expressly authorised by Thunder in writing. This includes the use of non-Thunder replacement parts or accessories.

(d) Environmental and external factors: Damage caused by environmental conditions or external events, including but not limited to flooding, fire, lightning, storm damage, hail, extreme temperatures, salt corrosion, animal damage, vandalism, theft, or any other event beyond Thunder's reasonable control.

(e) Misuse or neglect: Use of the product for any purpose other than its intended domestic use as described in the product documentation, or failure to maintain the product in accordance with Thunder's care and maintenance guidelines. This includes overloading, connection to incompatible equipment, and use in commercial or industrial applications unless expressly agreed in writing.

(f) Normal wear and degradation: Gradual reduction in output performance consistent with normal aging of photovoltaic cells. Minor cosmetic changes such as discolouration, surface marks, or fading that do not materially affect the performance of the product.

(g) Consequential and indirect losses: This warranty covers the repair or replacement of defective products only. Thunder shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, including but not limited to loss of energy generation, increased electricity costs, loss of feed-in tariff income, cost of removal or reinstallation, or any other financial loss arising from a product defect.

(h) Third-party components: Any fault or failure caused by third-party components, systems, or installations not supplied or approved by Thunder, including but not limited to consumer units, wiring, battery systems, or other electrical infrastructure.

(i) Failure to comply with regulations: Any issue arising from the customer's failure to comply with applicable UK laws, regulations, or standards, including but not limited to failure to notify the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) as required under ENA G98, or failure to obtain any necessary planning permissions or building regulation approvals.

5. Warranty Claim Process

To make a warranty claim, you must follow the process set out below. Claims that do not comply with this process may be delayed or refused.

  1. Contact us by email at support@thunderenergy.co.uk within the applicable warranty period, providing your order number, date of purchase, and a detailed description of the defect or fault.

  2. Provide photographic or video evidence clearly showing the defect, the product label (including serial number where applicable), and the installation setup. We may request additional information or evidence as reasonably necessary to assess your claim.

  3. Do not return any product until you have received written authorisation from Thunder. Unauthorised returns may not be accepted or processed.

  4. Thunder will assess the claim and, at its sole discretion, determine whether the defect falls within the scope of this warranty.

  5. If the claim is approved, Thunder will, at its sole discretion, either repair or replace the defective product. Replacement products may be new or refurbished and may differ in appearance from the original product, provided they are of equivalent specification and performance.

Thunder aims to resolve valid warranty claims within 30 business days of receiving all necessary information and evidence. However, resolution times may vary depending on product availability and the nature of the defect.

6. Inspection and Verification

Thunder reserves the right to inspect, test, or request the return of any product that is the subject of a warranty claim before approving the claim. If inspection reveals that the defect is not covered under this warranty (for example, because it results from physical damage, improper installation, or misuse), the claim will be declined and the product returned to you at your cost.

Thunder may, at its discretion, request access to photographs of the installation, the consumer unit, and the wiring configuration to verify that the product was installed in compliance with the installation manual and applicable regulations.

7. Limitations of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Thunder's total liability under this warranty shall not exceed the original purchase price of the defective product.

  • Thunder shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with the use of, or inability to use, the product.

  • This warranty is the sole and exclusive warranty provided by Thunder in respect of the products, except to the extent that any statutory rights cannot be excluded or limited by law.

8. Transferability

This warranty is personal to the original purchaser and is not transferable to any subsequent owner or user of the product, unless Thunder provides prior written consent.

9. Your Statutory Rights

This warranty is provided in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Under the Act, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If goods are faulty or not as described, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund depending on when the fault is reported:

  • Within 30 days of delivery: you are entitled to a full refund for faulty goods.

  • After 6 months but within 6 years of delivery: you may still have rights, but you may need to demonstrate that the fault was present or developing at the time of delivery.

For further information about your statutory rights, please visit www.citizensadvice.org.uk or contact your local Trading Standards office.

10. Governing Law

This Warranty Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
