Is the Thunder Bolt 920W ENA compliant?
Yes. Thunder Bolt 920W is officially listed on the ENA Connect Direct register as a compliant Plug-in Solar device under reference THUNE/21204/V1.
Is plug-in solar legal in the UK?
Yes. From 27 August 2026, compliant plug-in solar systems can connect to suitable standard household sockets in Great Britain under the new UK plug-in solar framework. Bolt 920W is listed as a compliant Plug-in Solar device on the ENA Connect Direct register.
Does the Bolt 920W plug into a normal UK socket?
Yes. Bolt 920W is supplied with the required UK AC connection cable and is designed to connect to a suitable standard UK household socket in accordance with the supplied instructions. Multi-way adaptors, travel adaptors and plug converters must not be used.
Why does Bolt 920W have 920W of solar panels with an 800W microinverter?
The 920W figure is the combined peak DC rating of the two solar panels, while the system's maximum AC output is 800VA. The additional solar capacity helps the system reach stronger output across more of the day, including during less-than-perfect conditions, while keeping maximum AC output within the UK plug-in solar framework.
Is the Bolt 920W suitable if I want more solar power?
Yes. Bolt 920W is the higher-output option in the Bolt range, using two solar panels to generate more electricity and help cover more of your daytime household consumption.
Do the two solar panels work independently?
Yes. Each panel connects to its own independent input and MPPT, allowing each panel to be individually optimised. This is particularly useful where the panels experience slightly different orientations, shading or sunlight conditions.
Do I need an electrician to install the Bolt 920W?
Not normally. Bolt 920W is designed as a self-install plug-in solar system using a suitable household socket. However, if your electrical installation is old, its condition is unknown, or you are unsure whether the intended socket and circuit are suitable, we recommend having them checked by a qualified electrician before connecting the system.
Where can I install the Bolt 920W?
Bolt works particularly well in gardens and on suitable flat roofs, sheds, outbuildings and rear extension roofs. Both panels must be securely mounted and positioned where they receive good sunlight with minimal shading.
What is the difference between Bolt 460W and Bolt 920W?
Bolt 460W is our Smart Starter system with one solar panel and room to expand later. Bolt 920W starts with two high-output panels from day one, making it the better choice if you have more available space and want greater solar generation.
How does the Bolt 900W work?
The two solar panels generate DC electricity, which is converted into usable AC electricity by the microinverter. The system then connects to your home through its UK 3-pin plug, allowing the generated solar electricity to be used by appliances in your home.
Can I monitor how much solar power I am generating?
Yes. The included smart microinverter has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and works with the S-Miles Home app, allowing you to view solar production and system performance from your phone.
Do I need to notify my DNO?
Plug-in solar is grid-connected generation and the relevant DNO notification requirements still apply. Thunder provides the system information and ENA reference required for the applicable notification process.
Can I add battery storage later?
Yes. Battery storage can be added later, or you can choose Bolt Plus 920W if you want the two-panel solar system and battery storage together from the outset.
